The popular short video app TikTok today announced that it will extend the video length limit from 60 seconds to 3 minutes. This will allow TikTok creators, also known as TikTokers, to create more detailed videos. In addition, this change makes TikTok a fierce competitor to other short and long video sharing platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.

Receive 3 minute TikTok video

The company recently announced changes through an official blog post. According to TikTok, the video limit will be expanded after various TikTokers request it. As a result, the company began rolling out a new 3-minute video limit to the masses after testing longer video formats for months.

If you were using TikTok before it was banned in India, you may know that the platform initially allowed users to create only short 15-second video clips like Vine. Going forward, TikTok has extended the video limit to 60 seconds, allowing creators to add more content to their videos.

However, for many creators, the 60-second video limit wasn’t enough. This was a challenge for anyone who wanted to share a video about beauty tutorials, comedy sketches, or educational resources on the platform. This often created a series of videos that exposed the entire content, encouraging viewers to follow other parts of the previous video.

Currently, by supporting up to 3 minutes of video, TikTok aims to solve this problem and help creators convey their message in a single video rather than in multiple parts.

When available, TikTok will roll out extended video lengths to global users in the coming days. When users become available, the app will notify them about changes so they can immediately take advantage of the long video format within TikTok.
