It’s that time of the year when we are all excited about the Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games is a multi-sport event where Commonwealth countries take part. It’s the 22nd Commonwealth Games, and the host city is Birmingham, United Kingdom. The games will take place for a period of two weeks from July 29th to August 8th. So let’s see which games are included in this year’s Commonwealth Games. The list begins with aquatics (diving) swimming and para swimming. The Athletics and its various subdivisions (Category ) including the Para Athletics, a special event for Para Athletes.Then come events like boxing, basketball, and badminton, which were recently included in the Commonwealth list ( 2018 Gold Coast). Cycling events are one of the major attractions of the Commonwealth Games.Then comes the list of some interesting games, such as gymnastics, hockey, and judo. Rugby and squash were the two games that attracted the highest sell-out in the last edition of these games. The Commonwealth also includes power games such as wrestling and powerlifting (weight lifting).But the latest addition to the Commonwealth Games, especially keeping in mind the Indian market, is the game of cricket. For the first time in its T20 format, cricket will feature in the Commonwealth. The Women’s T20 cricket will be played on the iconic ground of Edgbaston Cricket Ground. There are eight teams that have qualified. England, as the host, qualifies automatically, along with the top six ranked teams as of April 1, 2021, as direct qualifiers. The last place was awarded to the winners of the CWG Qualifier tournament- Sri Lanka.Along with cricket, basketball 3×3 is also added. This sport’s format is ready for some action-packed rapid play as it makes its CWG debut. At both Melbourne (2006) and Gold Coast (2018), a 5×5 version of the game was present at the Games. The Smithfield location will host the event.There will be a total of eight Commonwealth countries competing in this event, including the host and the top team from each of the six CGF regions.Another game which has been added to the Commonwealth this year is the Wheelchair Basketball 3×3 event, which will be played at the Smithfield venue for the first time in Commonwealth Games history. Six teams have been confirmed to compete by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). The six teams competing in the men’s competition are as follows: England, South Africa, Northern Ireland, Australia, Canada, and Malaysia. The six teams competing in the women’s competition are as follows: England, South Africa, Scotland, Australia, Canada, and Kenya.
