Sony launched the PlayStation 5 console last November, but it was rarely available. Sold 10 million PS5 units Globally. One of the notable omissions in the console so far has been the ability to expand storage to play PS5 games. And this feature is finally available for beta testers running the latest updates.

Deploy PlayStation 5 storage

If you’re one of those 10 million customers and you’re willing to run beta software, you can expand your PS5’s storage and play resource-intensive games right now. However, PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD with read speeds over 5,500MB / s Expand PS5 storage. M.2 SSDs of type numbers 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 are supported. You can expand your storage in the range of 250GB to 4TB.

Sony points out that not all games can be played with the same performance you would expect from an internal SSD. This is true even if you are using an M.2 SSD with a read speed of 5,500MB / s. “Even if the sequential read speed of an M.2 SSD device is faster than 5500MB / sec, not all games can be played with exactly the same performance that the PS5 console’s internal ultra-fast SSD provides.” Sony wrote in the support post.

Sony also warns that cooling is required to use the M.2 SSD. “To use the M.2 SSD with a PS5 console, you need effective heat dissipation through a cooling structure such as a heatsink. You can install it yourself on the M.2 SSD in either single-sided or double-sided format. There is also an M.2 SSD with a built-in cooling structure (such as a heat sink). “ The company added.
