WhatsApp is working on an official chat migration tool that allows users to transfer chats between iOS and Android devices. I recently learned that WhatsApp’s chat migration feature may require a cable connection. But according to a new report from 9to5Google, WhatsApp chat migration may be done wirelessly, and Google’s new app may help streamline the process.

Transfer WhatsApp chat from iOS to Android

In a recent update of Google’s data recovery tool app (free), 9to5Google I’ve found a string that suggests features that may help users forward WhatsApp chats. This will happen through the upcoming “Switch to Android” app Google may soon publish it on the iOS App Store. In particular, device connections will be made over Wi-Fi during this transition.

From what it looks like Google does not fully implement the new chat migration feature.. Instead, it calls WhatsApp’s upcoming chat migration feature to allow users to scan the QR code and move chats to Android. You can also open WhatsApp and go to Settings-> Chat-> Move Chat to Android From iPhone, forward all messages to Android when available.

Tipster Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot showing the new data recovery tool app. You can see them below. It doesn’t emphasize some of WhatsApp chat transfers, but it does reveal the existence of a switch to Android apps in Apple’s App Store and the flow for transferring apps, SMS messages and contacts.

One of the interesting additions here is the ability to transfer apps. Apple has had the “Move to iOS” app on the Play Store for years, so it’s safe to assume that Google will not face any hurdles when publishing the “Switch to Android” app on the App Store.
