On iOS 15 and iPad OS 15, Apple allows you to edit Safari’s welcome page to your heart’s content. Similar to Safari on Mac, you can set a background image and add or remove display sections such as website icons and reports. Learn how to customize your start page in Safari on your iPhone and iPad.

How to personalize your Safari start page on your iPhone

The start page is the first screen you see when you launch Safari or open a new empty tab. Here you’ll see bookmarked sites, frequently visited websites, privacy reports, reading list items, Siri-suggested sites, tabs open on other Apple devices, and more.

You can keep things organized or leave more useful options and sections here. For example, I don’t like the privacy reports and reading lists on Safari’s start page, so I don’t keep them. Your taste may be different.

Here’s how to enable or disable a section from the Safari start page:

  1. Open Safari Stay on the start page.
    If an existing web page is open, press the tab icon, New tab..
  2. Scroll down and tap Edit..
  3. To Customize the start page, Switch off unnecessary options.
  4. You can also touch to rearrange the order 3-line icon Drag up or down.

How to add a background image to Safari’s start page on iOS 15

You can use one of Apple wallpapers or choose a custom image from the photo app. Method is as follows.

  1. Open Safari Stay on the start page.
  2. Scroll down and tap Edit..
  3. Switch on background image..
  4. Wallpaper or Plus icon Select an image from your iPhone camera roll.
  5. Tap X Close this screen.
    The selected image will be displayed as the background image for the Safari start page.
