Intel announces new 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs for desktops and laptops

After announcing the first high-performance Arc gaming GPU earlier this week, Intel unveiled its new 12th generation core CPU lineup at today’s Architecture Day presentation. The new CPU line Codename Alder Lake And it will be the first set of Intel chips featuring a combination of high performance and low power cores.

According to Intel, the new Alder Lake CPU will be manufactured using the company’s 7nm architecture and will have a performance core and an efficiency core. Intel called the performance core the P core and the efficiency core the E core.

Currently, the P-core is based on the “Golden Clove” architecture and the E-core is based on the “Gracemont” architecture. For Gracemont-based cores, Intel took a different approach using physical silicon size and throughput efficiency to provide multithreaded performance for a large number of individual cores. The P-core, on the other hand, is designed for speed and low latency.

In addition, Intel’s Alder Lake CPU supports Advanced Matrix Extensions for accelerating deep learning training and inference. Intel is calling this Best performance core ever built.. The company also added that combining P-core and E-core with the new Alder Lake processor is highly scalable and can deliver up to 125W of power from 9W. In addition, the new CPU can manage a computing fabric of 100 Gbps per P core or a cluster of 4 E cores, for a total of 1000 Gbps across 10 units.

In addition, the new Intel CPU for desktops supports DDR5 RAM, PCIe storage, Wi-Fi 6e, and Thunderbolt 4 ports.that too Pack the integrated GPU There are up to 32 execution units to provide basic display output and graphics performance. The CPU supports up to DDR5-4800, LPDDR5-5200, DDR4-3200, and LPDDR4x-4266 RAM.

Besides this, Intel also announced two mobile processors under the new Alder Lake lineup. One of these has 6 P-cores and 8 E-cores, and the other has an ultra-compact design with only 2 P-cores and 8 E-cores. Both CPUs come with an integrated GPU with 96 execution units and a built-in Thunderbolt controller.

In terms of availability, Intel said desktop Alder Lake CPUs will be shipped to PCs in the coming months. Besides this, the company also talked about high-performance gaming GPUs. The first GPU is “Alchemist“. Developed by TSMC and will be visible on devices from early 2022.
