Instagram is saying goodbye to its dedicated IGTV app released in 2018. The app will be completely shut down in mid-March, so users will not be able to download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
RIP, Instagram IGTV app!
Instagram has revealed through a recent blog post for creators that it has made a decision to make creating and using video content easier than ever. Its purpose is to make All video content that users can access through the main Instagram app..
In the blog post, “We believe this will make it easier for people to use all these features in our main app, and we’re excited to continue simplifying and improving our videos in our main Instagram app over the next few months.“”
This move comes after Instagram recently decided to focus on the video part for a simpler experience. Merge feed video and IGTV into one wide format called Instagram video.. This section is in the main Instagram app for users to access Lille and IGTV videos from one place.
For those who don’t remember, the IGTV app was released almost four years ago in an attempt to compete with YouTube and other such video platforms. It provided a way for people to watch vertical short videos, but failed to attract a lot of attention and user base. So, given that it’s easier to access all video content from within the Instagram app, the decision to discontinue the IGTV app makes sense.
The platform also announced that it will focus on Instagram creators and find more ways to monetize on the platform. These methods are added to recent subscription services for creators to make money. It also became clear that Instagram will no longer support in-stream video ads (formerly known as IGTV ads).
