How to fix Apple News apps that keep crashing on iPhone and iPad

Rate this post

As soon as iOS 12 arrived, I installed it on my iPhone and tried Apple News Plus (you can change the country / region of the App Store if it’s not available in your country). Impressed by hundreds of magazines on various topics, I also subscribed to the news subscription service.

But when I tried to find out what topic I wanted to read, the Apple News app suddenly started crashing on my iPhone. The same issue occurs with the iOS 14 update. In some cases, the app will exit immediately upon launch. Otherwise, it will end in use.

Initially, crashes occurred only occasionally. However, the frequency has increased dramatically, and the time has come when news apps can no longer be used at all.

I have tried some reliable tricks that worked fortunately to solve the problem. Look as they may help you get rid of the problem.

1. Kill the Apple News app and restart it

Yes, this sounds very simple. You may be wondering why I proposed it. But let me tell you that it is one of the most reliable tricks to fix minor issues on iOS devices.

To kill the app (using the home button) on your iOS device, press the home button twice, then swipe up on the app card to close the app.

To do that on iPhone X Series and later and 2018 iPad Pro, swipe up from the home bar and hold down the center of the screen to bring up the App Switcher. Then swipe up on the app card to close it. Then open the news app and see if it’s working properly.

2. Hard reboot the device

Whenever the device stuck or seemed to behave abnormally, a hard reboot was my go-to savior. So why not give a forced restart an opportunity to show its reliability?

After your iOS device restarts, launch Apple News to see if the issue is resolved.

3. Try updating iOS on your device

Maybe the app is stuck with some mysterious bugs and the iOS update has fixed them completely. Therefore, it looks for updates when it hits the device. As soon as it becomes available (Settings → General → Software Update), Download and install.

Tap General, then tap Software Update in iOS 14 settings on your iPhone

4. Remove and reinstall the app

If that doesn’t work, try removing and reinstalling the app. This trick helped me troubleshoot device issues. So I hope good luck will help you too.

Note that deleting the Apple News app also erases that data. However, the documents and data stored in iCloud are kept safe.

Press and hold the news app, “NS“Button. Now tap erase Confirm with a pop-up. Then go to the App Store, find the app and reinstall it.
