Google Now allows you to set custom status in Gmail and Google Chat.Method is as follows

If you are using Google Chat, you can now set a custom status.At first Spots With Ron Amadeo from Ars Technica, Google has launched a custom chat status feature in Google Chat on the web and Google Chat in Gmail.

If you’re a beginner, Google Chat now sets the status to automatic based on activity and doesn’t bother you to mute notifications. With new additions, you can set the status message you like. To set a custom status in Gmail Click the status indicator pill and select Add Status..

When you come here, you’ll see a predefined set of statuses, such as Return Now, Commute, Sick, and Vacation. Choose one of these statuses, Set your own from the text box Exists on.

To set a custom status, simply add some text, optionally select an emoji that reflects your mood, and set the status expiration date. The default set of status expirations includes 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, the end of the day, or the week. You can customize the time period to your liking and click Finish to save your changes.
