Classic VLC Win32 app is now available in the Microsoft Store

VideoLAN, a non-profit organization behind the popular VLC media player, has introduced a Win32 version of VLC player to the Microsoft Store.First discovered Windows Central, Interested users running Windows 11 Access VLC player from the improved MS Store just now.

You may recall that a version of VLC already exists in the Microsoft Store. And you are right, yes. However, the Microsoft Store version of VLC used so far has been UWP apps. Compared to traditional VLC players, the player’s UWP port didn’t have many featuresIncludes the ability to play DVDs or Blurays.

This will change with the Win32 version of the new MS Store VLC player. The list of features that VideoLAN shares in the app’s Microsoft Store list is:

  • Multimedia player
  • Audio and music player
  • Subtitle synchronization
  • File transcoding
  • Streaming
  • Digital TV tuner
  • DVD playback
  • Audio CD player

VLC is the latest Win32 app for migrating to the Microsoft Store. In the last few weeks, several popular apps have appeared in the Microsoft Store, including WinZip, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and even Microsoft’s own Edge browser. With Android support in the Microsoft Store and a list of these useful apps, Microsoft is finally making the Store what Windows users want to use.
