After launching the ROG Phone 5 series earlier this year, Asus launched an upgraded version of earlier models today. Called the ROG Phone 5s series, the company has announced two new smartphones to replace the standard ROG Phone 5 and the high-end ROG Phone 5 Pro / Ultimate. There aren’t many changes, but both devices offer some significant upgrades over previous devices.

So, before moving on to the price, availability, and color variations of the ROG Phone 5s series, let’s take a look at the key specifications and features of the device.

ROG 5s series released

ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s Pro have similar features, except for the upgraded processor, new screen refresh rate, and touch response rate settings.

So, as you can imagine, the ROG Phone 5s has the same 6.78-inch Full HD + AMOLED panel on the front, supporting refresh rates up to 144Hz. However, unlike previous ROG Phone 5 adaptive refresh rates, which allow the user to set the screen refresh rate to 60Hz, 120Hz, or 144Hz, ROG Phone 5s adds a new 90Hz refresh rate setting to the mix. In addition, the new device will also upgrade the 300Hz touch response rate to 360Hz.

The ROG Phone 5s series features the Snapdragon 888 + SoC, unlike its predecessor, the underclocked vanilla Snapdragon 888 chipset. The Snapdragon 888+ is basically an overclocked version of the standard Snapdragon 888 chipset, where the primary core is clocked up to 2.99GHz, while the latter is clocked at the lower 2.84GHz. As a result, users can expect better performance on ROG Phone 5s devices than previous models.

Also, unlike the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, which was released as a limited edition model, the ROG Phone 5s Pro will be mass-produced for users. On the back is a color-enabled “ROG Vision” PMOLED display that matches the rear display of your ROG Phone 5 Pro. For those who don’t know, the back of ROG Phone 5 Ultimate had a monochrome panel to match the overall design.

In addition, ROG Phone 5s Pro features two additional touch sensors on the back that are also found on ROG Phone 5 Pro and Ultimate models.

The standard ROG Phone 5s, like its predecessor, does not have a ROG Vision display on the back. Instead, pack the standard RGB-based ROG logo found on ROG Phone 5. In addition, it doesn’t have the two additional touch sensors on the back of his brother.

Besides these, ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro have the same hardware and software features as their predecessors. On the back is a triple camera setup with a primary 64MP lens, a 13MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 5MP macro lens. There is a 24MP selfie snapper on the front.

These devices also include the same 6,000mAH high-capacity battery that supports 65W fast charging. In addition, it has a pair of stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and also supports sub 6Ghz 5G networks. In terms of software features, there are apps for optimizing the gaming experience, such as the Armory Crate app, Game Genie overlays, and AudioWizard app. Both devices will continue to run Android 11-based ROGUI, just like their predecessors.

Price, color, and availability

As a color variation of the ROG Phone 5s series, the standard ROG Phone 5s comes in two colors, Phantom Black and Storm White. However, ROG Phone 5s Pro has only the Phantom Black Color option.

Asus is currently announcing prices for the series only in Taiwan and mainland China. Prices for both devices are just below.
